I must confess that I really do enjoy the Lenten Season. From my childhood days of attending Catholic schools, I look forward to 40 days of preparing for Easter. Of course, over the years my ideas about Easter have changed, but I still enjoy these 40 days in bringing about a new consciousness, a new way to experience and connect with Christ.
I remember the days when I would give up things for lent, but now I think about what I can add to my life during this time.
This Lenten Season I am using a wonderful booklet from Unity titled, 40 Days to an Awakened Christ-Consciousness. It is a wonderful little book that has you releasing something one day and then establishing or accepting something the next day. The first day of lent we were asked to release self-doubt and the next day we were asked to accept ourselves. I especially loved day seven and eight where we released feelings of fear and established courage. Today I was asked to release illness. Tomorrow I get to establish health. It is really a very powerful exercise and the booklet provides space to journal as well.
This morning I just wanted to share a few words from the introduction by Eric Butterworth. He writes, "If you must give up something, give up the tendency to consider yourself weak and undisciplined. Turn from the simple act of giving up things to a more positive commitment to take up the practice of high-level thinking." He goes on to quote Emerson who refers to prayer as "the contemplation of the facts of life from the highest point of view." Butterworth says that this is a great idea. He says we should form the habit of reaching for the highest point of view in all our dealings. He believes this is what it means to pray without ceasing. He suggests that we take up the practice of speaking the positive word; that we commit ourselves to a diet of words that are positive and loving.
I pray that you are practicing high-level thinking and keeping your vibrations high and that when Easter arrives you will have truly awakened the Christ-Consciousness within.
